Dr. Gloria Beim is Board Certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery in orthopaedic surgery and sports medicine. She is
also fellowship trained in shoulder surgery, knee surgery, arthroscopy and sports medicine. She began college at the age of 14
earning her M.D. at the University of California at San Diego. Her Orthopaedic credentials were earned at the New York Orthopaedic
Hospital at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center. She then completed her sports medicine, knee, shoulder and arthroscopy fellowship
training at the University of Pittsburgh, Center for Sports Medicine in 1996.
Dr. Beim founded Alpine Orthopaedics, Sports Performance & Regional Hand Center, located on the Western Slope of the Colorado
Rockies in 1999 and holds clinics at five sites including, Gunnison, Crested Butte, Mt. Crested Butte, Montrose and Telluride.
In April of 2006 Alpine Orthopaedics, Sports Performance & Regional Hand Center and Physiotherapy Associates opened its doors to its
new 11,000 sq.ft., state-of-the-art facility, including Alpine Surgery Center, Gunnison County's first ambulatory surgery center,
which opened its doors in December of 2006.
Dr. Beim is the physician for the U.S. Track Cycling Team and a team physician for Western State College Athletics in Gunnison.
She is a member of the Olympic Sports Medicine Society, and was a U.S. Team physician at the 2004 Olympic games in Athens, Greece.
She was also invited to be a team physician for the U.S. at the 2008 Olympic games in Beijing.
She is a member of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine and is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
As a sports medicine fellow at the University of Pittsburgh, she was a team physician for the football, wrestling and gymnastics teams.
In addition to publishing in numerous professional journals and textbooks, Dr. Beim is a reviewer for the American Journal of Sports
Medicine and the author of "The Female Athlete's Body Book". She has appeared as an authority in sports medicine in a number of TV
newscasts and web based sites including The Today Show, Dateline NBC, Fox News and msn.com with Kashi.
Dr. Beim is an accomplished athlete and has competed in ice hockey, racquetball, volleyball, equestrian jumping, cycling, gymnastics
and track events. She resides in Crested Butte with her husband Erik, daughter Skylar, son Jakob, and their four dogs. Her hobbies
and interests include mountain biking, snow skiing, hockey, horseback riding, wind surfing and weight lifting.
