Dr. Griggs is a Board Eligible Orthopaedic Surgeon with specialty fellowship training in upper extremity, shoulder, elbow and hand surgery. Dr. Griggs' clinic locations are in Gunnison, Crested Butte, Mt. Crested Butte and Telluride.
Dr. Griggs was born and raised in Jackson, Wyoming, where skiing and cycling were his passions. In 1997 he won the UT State Cyclocross Championship, placed 6th at the US Cyclocross National Championships and placed 20th at the US Elite Nationals Road Race. In 2000 he placed 6th at the AMBC National Finals XC. He also has had the pleasure of being on three Alpine Junior Olympic Ski Teams. Dr. Griggs graduated from Loma Linda University in Loma Linda, California, in 1993in Occupational Therapy. He went on to do occupational therapy fellowship training specializing in hand therapy at The Hand Rehabilitation Center in Metairie, Louisiana. Dr. Griggs was hand therapist and owner of Teton Hand Therapy in Jackson, Wyoming from October of 1995 through August of 2002. He graduated from Saba University School of Medicine. He did his internship at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota and his orthopaedic residency in Phoenix, Arizona and at the University of Florida, Gainesville. He continued his upperextremity, shoulder, elbow and hand fellowship training at the University of Florida, Gainesville. Dr. Griggs joined Alpine Orthopaedics & Sports Performance Center in July of 2008 and is the first hand specialist of Gunnison County. Dr. Griggs will be eligible to take his American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery boards in 2010. He has published several book chapters including Metacarpal Fractures - Trumble's Hand Surgery, 2008 and Carpal Kinematics - Rehab of the Hand, 2008. He has done extensive research on basal joint degeneration and extensive tendon rehabilitation. Dr. Griggs resides in Crested Butte with his wife, Lisa, two daughters, Haily and Brielle, and their black labrador retriever, Ony.
