Alonso Escalante, M.D.
Dr. Escalante has been a Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon since 1978 with specialty fellowship training in hand surgery. Dr. Escalante's clinic location is in Gunnison.

Dr. Escalante was born in Merida, Yucatan, Mexico and at the age of 16 his family moved to Mexico City. He received his undergraduate, graduate and Doctor of Medicine degrees at The National Autonomous University of Mexico in Mexico City. After graduating from medical school, Dr. Escalante was encouraged by his father, who also was an Orthopaedic Surgeon, to come to the USA. He completed his internship at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York and subsequent to that his residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at Tulane University of Louisiana in New Orleans. Dr. Escalante furthered his training with a fellowship in hand surgery and passed his Certification of Added Qualifications in Hand Surgery in 1992. After retiring from a 30-year private practice in San Antonio he moved to Gunnison to be closer to his family and joined Alpine Orthopaedics in June of 2008.

Dr. Escalante resides in Gunnison with his wife Maria. He has three grown sons, Alonso, Jr. who resides in Denver, Colorado with his wife Jenny and son Theodore; Eric and his wife Melissa and their two sons, Diego and Mateo, who reside in Gunnison; and his youngest son Daniel who resides in Crested Butte, Colorado. After being away from their sons for a long period of time Dr. Escalante and Maria are very excited about being closer to their family.

Dr. Escalante's hobbies include fishing, hiking and stained glass work. He also enjoys snow skiing and loves spending time with his family.
